Trauma Survivors Day May 17 - our Cyclethon goes Transatlantic!

Wednesday 17 May 2017, is international Trauma Survivors Day.  The Centre for Trauma Sciences, AfterTrauma and Barts Charity will be hosting their second cyclethon to raise awareness about the high incidence of traumatic injury, the experiences of trauma survivors everywhere and the incredible work that trauma centres do in saving lives everyday.

Last year, over 80 Royal London Hospital staff took shifts pedalling furiously for 12 hours on static bikes in the hospital foyer, raising £2500 funds for trauma research and recovery and having a great time in the process.   This year, we will be doing it all over again, with the added morale boost of being joined by three Level 1 Trauma Services in the USA – Jefferson Health (Philadelphia), University Health System (San Antonio) and Vanderbilt Hospital (Nashville).  The Trauma Survivors Network (set up by the American Trauma Society) initiated TSD, and has led the way in improving support for trauma survivors in the USA. We are very excited to be joined by some of their lyrca clad cycling members in this event.

AfterTrauma encourages trauma survivors, carers and other Major Trauma Centres around the UK to join us in marking this important day. We encourage people to take selfies with positive messages for & about trauma survivors (as in the picture above) and join us in tweeting/ Instagraming with the hashtag #TraumaSurvivorsDay.
